Make Fedora 23 Beautiful – Contribute Your Wallpaper

Fedora 23 development is moving on and the time to release is not long anymore, so it is time to open the submission phase for Fedora 23 Supplemental Wallpapers.

What are supplemental wallpapers?

Supplemental wallpapers are the non-default wallpapers provided with Fedora. Usually Fedora ships GNOME upstream supplemental wallpapers. We try to collect a set for each release of Fedora and offer it as an option package. Wallpaper shipped with Fedora that is not the default wallpaper is called ‘supplemental’ wallpaper.

How to contribute to this package?

Fedora uses for the submission application Nuancier for managing the submissions and the voting process.
For an submission you need an Fedora account. For being allowed to vote, you must have a membership in another group as cla_done or cla_fpca.
For inspiration you can look to former submissions and winner wallpaper.

Great! However, what happened to the F22 Wallpapers? They were never released as a backgrounds-extras package.

    Please can we have those?

    • Well the problem is that the packager didnt respond. So we had to find out what is going on, we have now a new packager for our packages and he will package them but first priority is to package the F23 stuff. So the package will come during the next days

      • Mike Simms

Okay thanks for the reply. I’ve made today an unofficial zip file version of my own which is available via the Community section of fedoraforum.org.

However, if you reckon days rather than weeks for the official package, even better.

Still no official F22 package? The packager (singular?) seems to have an epic workload. How come there isn’t more than one working in conjunction with each other? It shouldn’t be too difficult in the era of cloud storage and easy document sharing to organise.

Some of the nicest backgrounds. for example, the little alpha characters that was on a background from Fedora 21 would be appreciated.

The hot air ballon from Fedora 7.

It would be wonderful if Chapeau Linux / Korora Linux would provide backgrounds that are commonly used within their respective Fedora 22 Respins. http://www.chapeaulinux.org https://kororaproject.org/ for the respins.

The default Korora background, which is bright, light, easy on the eyse would be great.

We should never have a dark dreary forbidding background as a default distributed version.

Where can we download the proposed images? Is it also via Nuancier?

Says I must sign the CLA, ok, How?

Looks like the Nuancier server is ill. Got a 500 error message while uploading…

  6. Are there some plans for multi-display spanning wallpapers? For example, I am running Fedora on a machine with three displays spanning a resolution of 6400×1200…

    • yes, there are. Currently a GSoC student i working on a feature for Nuancier which allows to cut out multi-monitor wallpapers from panoramic pictures

I was unaware of the authors or photographers of some of the marvelous photographs. Thanks to some respins, I know know the names of these gentleman and ladies.

I do have a twinge of disappointment. There are no pictures of winter scenes, of skiers on the slopes, of an ice boat, or so many other kinds of photos that show the first sunny day after a storm.

Lets encourage artists to produce some of these winter scenes for the coming Fedora 24.

And can we have Fedora24 background setting have a tunable random presentation option? We could choose a random photo to be based on the hour, or a change at midnight.

Some photos are really outstanding. Two Fedora Respins have included them in their offerings.

    Hi,

I have two queries regarding the submissions :

    a) How do I check my own submitted photographs?

    b) How do I know whether my submissions have been selected or not?

    • for a) what you want to check?

for b) I normally write a post after the election and the result is public anyway

      • Vineet Tuli

        Thanks Kemter for the responses.

I only wanted to check whether the submission has been completed or not.

        • yes, your upload “Flower Petals” did work, I will approve all the uploads during next days. I was overstrained with that many uploads. I already started yesterday with it, but it takes some time as I have to do a little research for each if the license is right.

Btw. I like your upload and wish you good luck in the election

          • Vineet Tuli

Thanks Kemter for the information 🙂

I will be uploading a few more wallpapers by next week.
